AstatementbytheU.S.Attorney’sOfficefortheSouthernDistrictofNewYorksaidthatthecaseispartof“OperationTakeBackAmerica,”whichitsaidisa“nationwideinitiativethatmarshalsthefullresourcesoftheJusticeDepartmenttorepeltheinvasionofillegalimmigration,achievethetotaleliminationofcartelsandtransnationalcriminalorganizations(TCOs),andprotectourcommunitiesfromtheperpetratorsofviolentcrime.”
Accordingtothestatement,thechargesfiledagainst27allegedcurrentandformerTrendeAragua(TdA)membersincludehumansmuggling,sextraffickingandmurder.
