In a move that is likely to have many members of Congress on edge, Elon Musk is planning to have the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) look into how lawmakers have become “strangely wealthy” despite their relatively modest public salaries.
SpeakingatatownhallinWisconsinonSundaynight,MuskrevealedthathisteamatDOGEwillinvestigatehowcertainmembersofCongresshaveamassedfortunesthatfarexceedtheirofficialearnings.Withtheprospectofrealscrutinyontheirfinances,thosewho’vebeencashinginontheirpositionshaveeveryreasontobenervous.
OneattendeeatthetownhallhadaskedMuskifDOGEhaduncoveredevidenceoffundswiredfromtheUSAgencyforInternationalDevelopment(USAID)toRep.MaxineWaters(D-Calif.),Sen.AdamSchiff(D-Calif.)andSenateMinorityLeaderChuckSchumer(D-NY).
“They’ll[thegovernment]sendthemoneyoverseastooneNGO[non-governmentalorganization],thenthey’llgothroughabunchofthem,andthenI’mhighlyconfidentthatabunchofthatmoneythencomesbacktotheUnitedStatesandlandsinthepocketsofthepeopleyoujustmentioned,”Muskreplied.
“Butit
